Playa is now accepting applications for Fall 2014 Residencies. Deadline March 15

(from the website) PLAYA is a retreat for creative individuals who are committed and passionate about their work, and who will benefit from time spent in a remote location. At PLAYA, we offer seclusion and quiet in a natural environment and the opportunity for interaction, if desired, with a cohort of residents and the local rural community. A  Residency provides the time and space to create substantive work or to research and reflect upon one’s creative or scientific processes. Away from the urgencies of daily life, residents can focus on their projects, immerse in a desert landscape of basin and rangeland, and find inspiration through self-directed inquiry.

The Fall 2014 residency season will run from mid August to mid December, 2014. All residency sessions will begin on a Monday and end on a Friday. Applicants may choose between periods of 2 week (12 days), 4 week (26 days), 6 week (40 days), or 8 week (54 days) sessions. If you have questions regarding Playa’s residencies, or the application process, email us at [MORE]

Playa is a beautifully managed, elegant place in the middle of desert wilderness. It’s isolated. No much (almost none in fact) in the way of external technological help (even cell phones don’t work in the compound). But the proprietors have a wonderful sense of how to fit artists’ need for quiet and workspaces and tuck these facilities into a fold along a wild desert landscape. If you like vastness with no mountains in the way, you will love Playa. The foundation is also interested in a variety of artistic endeavors and actually seems to hope that artists more adventurous than mere oil painters (I’m an old fashioned oil painter) might show up. I love it there.
