David Boye, a guitarist and composer from Lincoln, Nebraska will be presenting a series of concerts in August during a four state tour of National Parks and Monuments to perform music written from a retrospective of previous work as an Artist In Residence. The solo instrumental acoustic guitar pieces seek to convey the peacefulness and the mysteries of the vast wilderness and infinite allure of the National Parks. Some of the pieces incorporate actual sounds of nature recorded by the composer on the site of the residences.
As a musician, songwriter and educator David Boye has crisscrossed many musical paths in his 30-plus years as a guitarist, bassist, and composer. In 2007 he returned to his first music love, solo fingerstyle instrumental acoustic guitar. Inspired by guitar pioneers like Leo Kottke, Michael Hedges, Davy Graham and others he began to write original pieces for solo guitar, employing features like alternate tunings, percussive techniques on the guitar, and multi tracked “looping”.
He was accepted as an Artist In Residence at North Cascades National Park in 2008 which started a personal passion of exploring and creating sounds that capture the infinite wonders of the wilderness of the National Parks and the west. He has also served as an Artist In Residence at Rocky Mountain National Park and Homestead National Monument. The results of these residencies are evocative and uplifting pieces that will elicit the calm splendor of the beautiful vistas and wide open spaces of the great American outdoors.
The programs will feature music performances from a cross sction of residency compositions and will also include a discussion of the A-I-R program and the benefits and importance of it for facilitating artistic appreciation of the parks. The programs are free and open to the public. Please check the specific park websites and Facebook postings for exact time and location.
